Ron Hegarty it was actually in reference to an incorrect posting on the BBC !! Maybe you should check before making statements such as yours in future !! It was aimed at the reporter for the BBC and not anyone in the village !! There are light references to the comedy clampers yet you ignore this, instead feel the need to add a second post aimed solely at myself !! suddenly i start to see why people abandoned this forum !!

In response to Jeanne, perhaps the Parish Council, or one of the churches could open an emergency appeal so that people could pay into at Nat West, for example, if that is thought to be helpful; insurance can take a long time. However, someone would have to act as trustees and process the claims.

Congratulations and thanks to our local postmen, who despite all the chaos and the loss of use of the Royal Mail sorting office still managed to get the post sorted and delivered, albeit a little later than normal.

Just a thought! I hope the beastly clampers will lay off residents of Chapel Lane who have been obliged to park in the parade because they are unable to get home.

I've just seen that Jeanne. Fom the news reports online this morning, I didnt realise how much damage the fire had actually done. Like the gentleman says all his families possessions have been lost, very sad to those affected. Would be great if someone could post to let us know what the residents can do done to help those affected.
On a slightly different note, would it be possible for somebody to post on the homepage when the high street does reopen.. ? Just so that the residents who live down Chapel Lane are aware without having to go to the end of their lane to find out. I know the police kindly let people leave for work this morning as there were less emergency vehicles around. So several people will be needing to park elsewhere in Staplehurst before returning home on foot. Not a big problem, but just so that they are aware, many thanks

What can we do collectively to help those who have lost possessions in the fire? One man on BBC South East said he had lost all his clothes. It may take time before any insurance money comes through to them. The Police, Fire Brigade etc are being brilliant, but I guess that those affected will need a lot of TLC at the moment. And if local businesses lose out temporarily, we should make sure we return to them when the fire damage is repaired.

Indeed you are correct Mr Hegarty.
One is glad that there were no injuries. Hopefully the various local businesses in those buildings are not too affected by water damage.

The situation today, and the reporting being done on this forum, is what the forum should be about. It does not warrant the infantile expression given by 'hurstian'

This has already been considered but I have since heard that the Post Office ground floor is not badly damaged so may re-open tomorrow if all is well/safe above.

Couldn't the temporary post office be put into one of the empty shops in the High Road or the Parade?

A variety of emergency teams are working well, not just to put out the fire and direct traffic, but to support people made homeless and contact Post Office officials too. Work to find alternative temporary accommodation to re-open the Post Office in Staplehurst as soon as possible has already begun. Well done everyone for all your hard work.

Police officers led residents to safety from Staplehurst High Street Post Office after fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday 14 July. The blaze appears to have started in the roof space in the post office at 3.30am and spread into the flats above the Post Office and into the roof space of two adjoining buildings.
Ten fire engines, from as far away as Sittingbourne, Matfield and Lenham, a height vehicle and full incident support crew and members of the Red Cross, were on the scene. The fire fighting crew wore breathing apparatus and moved inside the building to tackle the fire.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Kent Police moved 10 people from the area and implemented road closures while South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but no-one is believed to have been injured."
The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Many of you may be wondering why there are still a couple of fire engines, police and other people wondering around outside the post office and buildings either side.
From the news report, 10 were evacuated but thankfully no-one is believed to have been injured. They are still to find out the cause of the fire.
Here is a link to explain it in more details....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10627233
